Deviancy in the Anglo-Saxon World:

In a broad sense, deviancy in cemeteries refers to any burials that are outside the norm in that area. Unfortunately, deviancy often carries a negative connotation. With this in mind we want to be very clear that when we say "deviant" we simply mean outside of the norm.

Research Questions:

1) What makes a deviant burial in Anglo-Saxon era Great Britain and Ireland?

2) Is there a difference between deviant burials and criminal burials? If so, is there a way to     determine this difference in the archaeological record?

3) How do deviant burial practices differ between Ireland and Great Britain?
